TEXT: HOSEA 14: 1-19 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “Repent ye therefore, and be converted that your sins may be blotted out.” Acts 3:19a KJV
Almost throughout the Book of Hosea, the prophet spoke concerning both sin and punishment. He spoke grievously of the sin of Israel and the attendant punishment, especially concerning the wayward leadership of their kings and that of the people’s idol worship.
In our text today, Hosea exhorted the people to repent and turn back to God. Iniquity was what led them astray, and thus repentance of their sinful idolatry was necessary in order that God will forgive them, and take them back as His children (Luke 15:17-20). In verses 4-8, we see God’s response to the plea of verses 1-3, as a message of hope, which portrays that the transformation that Israel, as God’s people, would go through as they turn back to God.
In John 3:16, we see that God’s perfect love for the world motivated Him to give out His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. Also, in John 1:12, we read that as many as would believe and accept Him, would receive the right to become his children. Isaiah 55:1-5 portrays God extending an open and free invitation to all and sundry, to turn to Him for free grace and mercies. It follows therefore that God’s grace and mercy are free, and as many as would obey and heed the invitation, would receive more than they bargained. Let us therefore return unto our God, for His mercies that endures forever.
