MEMORY VERSE: “But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh King of Egypt.” Deuteronomy 7:8
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 7:6-11
For you are a holy and set-apart people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a special people to Himself out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
7 The Lord did not set His love upon you and choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the fewest of all people.
8 But because the Lord loves you and because He would keep the oath which He had sworn to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Know, recognize, and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations,
10 And repays those who hate Him to their face, by destroying them; He will not be slack to him who hates Him, but will requite him to his face.
11 You shall therefore keep and do the instruction, laws, and precepts which I command you this day.

In our world today, we have seen different forms of fathers; mature and premature, responsible and irresponsible fathers. Fatherhood is really not the presence of a child in a man’s life or the presence of a male reproductive organ. Amongst many factors that makes a man a father, the pillars of fatherhood remain being Love, Responsiveness and Commitment.
Even God acknowledges this. No wonder he reminded the people of Israel that his love towards them was not because they were much or that they were strong but because it is his responsibility to love, and the ones he (God) has called his own and that he is also committed to keeping the oath he has made to their forefathers.
This is the compelling force that takes every responsible father out of the house to go searching for a job. Because he wants to live up to the responsibilities of his family and be committed to giving them the very best he can afford.
The father’s love will also compel the father to go to any extent in protecting and defending his own. Isaiah 43:3-4 says, “For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.”
When God says he loves you, he means it. So he wants you to see him as your Source, your Sustainer and your Defender.
Let this word comfort you today that Jesus loves you more than you can ever imagine, and this love is unconditional.
- God’s love to humanity is unconditional. Tap into this love and enjoy your life in its fullness.
- Dear loving Father, thank you for your unending Love. Let this love overwhelm my challenges to your Glory, in Jesus name, Amen.
