ESOCS Devotional 21 February 2021
TEXT: LUKE 7:11-23
MEMORY VERSE: “And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, weep not.” Luke 7:13
The word intervention seeks to address a motion or interference that vetoes or overrides any existing principle, law or order in favour of an individual, party or entity. Divine intervention, in other words, is what we call mercy. Mercy is not necessarily forgiveness but an aid to make up for inability.
We live in a world were wickedness and hatred; and bitterness prevails for no just course, especially against us that call on the name of the Lord. The princes of this world, through spiritual manipulation, have continually routed affliction against God’s people. To a large extent, they prevail (this is the reality) and it looks as though the believer is helpless or as though God no longer answer prayers. No. He still answers prayer. Sometimes, our challenges are self-inflicted or inherited, as the case may be. The challenge is that believers have not learnt to strike the chord that invites the presence of God regardless of the situation we are into. The believer really has a system of advantage over any system that exists on earth.
This may apply to someone who is reading this devotional now, standing at the crossroads of life. Someone may have been frustrated by the vicissitudes of life, which include crumbling businesses, economic disaster, and various forms of affliction including sicknesses, diseases, or some kind of plague. Have you lost the joy of your salvation as a believer?
Come on friends. Bounce back as a Victor that you are. One with God is majority. I have good news for you. Notice that the game changed when Jesus appeared in the scene. And He had compassion (mercy) on her and said, Don’t cry! Would you find comfort in these words of Christ? Truly, help is here for you today. Hebrews 4:14 says, “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testing we do, yet He did not sin.” Jesus understands every pain we go through. He understands our weaknesses. He understands how helpless we are. He has gone through them too. That is why He made provision for His mercy because He understands that at some points in your life you will run out of help, and as a good Lord and Saviour who knows how to do good and help His people, He is saying in the midst of your pain and confusion, “My mercy is sufficient for you.” Come on child of God, you are advantaged. There were men in the scripture who understood the code of mercy. Men like David, blind Bartimaeus, etc.
