TEXT: EXOD. 1:1-END
MEMORY VERSE: “And it came to pass, because that the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.” Exodus 1:21 KJV
To ‘make’ or ‘build up a house’ in Hebrew idiom, means to have a merous progeny (family) both in children and posterity, in wealth, and other outward blessings.
In this passage, the midwives feared God at the risk of their lives by doing the opposite of the king’s command and putting their lives in danger. They had two options: one was obeying the king and do evil by killing innocent newborn males; two was preserve them and face the king’s wrath – they chose to do good rather than evil (Deut. 30:19) and were blessed for it.
There are times when we face impossible situations where we have to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. Like the midwives we are expected to take the right decision in the fear and reverence of God for it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands
- Do you fear the Lord in all situations?
- Oh Lord, help me to fear you as I ought in every situation, in Jesus name. Amen.
