TEXT: JEREMIAH 3:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3 KJV
The nature of God’s love is everlasting; it never ends, it is constant, flowing like a river. God is love and His love is therefore like Himself.
Our text reveals to us the magnitude of God’s love upon the children of Israel. It’s love that promises to be there, at all times without denial; with His love, He promises to build again children of God who had strayed from His path, to adorn them again with mercy and make them to be joyful. God’s love will never allow His own to plant in vain but will cause them to plant and eat that which they have planted.
The whole essence of God’s everlasting love upon man is to teach man to sing with gladness unto Him, to publish His praise to all the people including the blind and lame, of how He has saved them from the hands of their enemies and delivered them from evil, while they were still lost in sin and has restored to them all that they had lost.
God’s everlasting love gave full exercise to all His glorious attributes in the salvation of His church. All His gifts and blessings can also be traced to His love. His sending His only begotten Son to die for man is also an act of His everlasting love (John 3:16).
At every point in time, God’s love is poured out with the intention of drawing us to Himself. His love is willing to endure suffering for His subjects, is willing to give all, just to save His own. God’s love is real security. Even when we fail Him, He promises never to fail us. He will always draw us back and restore us again, just like He did to the backslidden children of Israel in our text.
God’s love takes delight in turning our mourning into dancing, comforting us, and making us rejoice from our sorrow; and He will always satisfy His children with His goodness.
The security we are all looking for is to know that we are unconditionally and eternally loved, that we are people of infinite worth in God’s eyes, and that this is something given to us – not something we earned or deserved. This is what God means by Everlasting love.
