TEXT: ISAIAH 63:7-14
MEMORY VERSE: “For he said, sure they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.” Isaiah 63:8 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place ”
7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the Lord
And the praises of the Lord,
According to all that the Lord has bestowed on us,
And the great goodness toward the house of Israel,
Which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies,
According to the multitude of His loving kindnesses.
8 For He said, “Surely they are My people,
Children who will not lie.”
So He became their Savior.
9 In all their affliction He was [a]afflicted,
And the Angel of His Presence saved them;
In His love and in His pity He redeemed them;
And He bore them and carried them
All the days of old.
10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit;
So He turned Himself against them as an enemy,
And He fought against them.
11 Then he remembered the days of old,
Moses and his people, saying:
“Where is He who brought them up out of the sea
With the [b]shepherd of His flock?
Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them,
12 Who led them by the right hand of Moses,
With His glorious arm,
Dividing the water before them
To make for Himself an everlasting name,
13 Who led them through the deep,
As a horse in the wilderness,
That they might not stumble?”
14 As a beast goes down into the valley,
And the Spirit of the Lord causes him to rest,
So You lead Your people,
To make Yourself a glorious name.
As the world celebrates Saint Valentine’s Day and the sacrifices he made for love; which is also a reflection of the personality and life of Jesus Christ, it is important to talk about God’s trust for His children flowing out of His love for us. It is interesting to know that God loves us so much that He believes without a doubt that we are His children. He further went ahead to categorically state that we will not lie. This implies that God has absolute faith and trust in us not to disappoint Him.
You will recall that in God’s conversation with Satan, the Lord made a boast of Job (Job 1:8; 2:3); and true to His words, Job never disappointed God. Beloved, are you aware that God is still boasting about you? He still confirms that you are part of Him; therefore, you will not lie. Do you know that God still loves and trust you so dearly? Why then are you betraying His trust for you?
Brethren, do you know that anytime you tell a lie you are betraying God’s trust and equally making God a liar by implication? Whether it is a lie over the phone, a lie during communication, a lie during interrogation, a lie before a panel, a lie on the pulpit, a lie to impress, a lie in self-defense or a lie for life, you practically disappoint the love and trust God has for you.
In your celebration, never betray those who trust and love you; live a life of truthfulness.
- Desist from lies; live in truth always, no matter who is involved.
- Father, thank you for making me your own. Forgive my days of lying and help me not to betray the trust you have for me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
