TEXT: MATTHEW 6:24-34
MEMORY VERSE: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV
Humans traditionally, worry over ‘basic needs’ such as food, water, shelter and clothing., Many modern lists emphasize the minimum level of consumption of ‘basic needs’ of not just food, water, clothing and shelter but also sanitation, education, and healthcare. The truth remains that every sane person aspires to have more than the ‘basic needs.’ This has become a source of worry to most people.
Some people have made material acquisition the only reason why they are on earth here, relegating the kingdom of God to the back. You easily hear people, mostly the young ones say, “If I make it, I will serve God the rest of my life.” That was how the “Rich Fool” in the book of Luke 12: 16-21 got it wrong. It is a worldly formula from the devil, the father of lies. This is causing physical, mental and spiritual dangers to this generation.

Our text tells us that God, the owner of all that we need, knows when to give us what we need at the right time. Christ gave us the “Christian formula” (v 33). Anything contrary to what Christ has given us (believing God and doing right in all places) is the wrong formula, which will only cause one sorrow at last.
The truth remains that God has provided enough for our needs and not our greed. Greed is driving the world to self-destruction; some even want to acquire more than they need. One gets worried and endangered if the “worldly formula” is applied in life. A patient that chooses to ignore the best and efficacious prescription (right formula) from his doctor endangers his life. Conclusively, to overcome your worries/fears:
i. Possess the Spirit of adoption – Rom. 8:15
ii. Practice perfect love which casteth out fear – 1 John 4:18
iii. Place the horse before the cart (the right formula) – Matt. 6:33
CHALLENGES
Do you still believe only in your ability to achieve what you need in life?
Do you mix-up needs with wants?
PRAYER POINT
Father, forgive my mix-ups of needs and wants. Give me the grace to follow your prescription alone, in Jesus name. Amen.
