TEXT: JOHN 5:31-47
MEMORY VERSE: “There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.” John 5: 32 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In the face of great opposition to His ministry by the Jews, Jesus stated that He expected no good witness from man (v 34); but that He was satisfied with the witness of John the servant of God; the evidence of His work on earth and the confirmation He had received from God the Father. (Verses 31-37.)
Truly, it does not matter what the world says, thinks or does about what we are empowered by God to do on earth. What matters is our commitment and ability to showcase the fruit of the wealth of the power of God in our lives (v 36). Jesus said of Himself “… the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.” What and what do you have to show that you are working in the light of God?
Again, we have to be concerned about the witness that the servants of God bear about our lives. There is no one who gets it all right at every stage of life. We have to listen and hearken to godly advice. Jesus said of John; “…. And he bare witness unto the truth …. he was a burning and a shining light….” (vs. 33, 35).
The last of it is divine confirmation of our status in life. What has God said about your life? The word of God came to Christ in the hearing of John at Baptism, that Jesus is the beloved Son of God in whom God is well pleased. Living a life that will please God is one duty we owe to ourselves and to God. In verse 37 Jesus said, “… the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me.”
- What witness do you have about yourself?
- Father, speak to guide and direct my life in accordance with your will.
