TEXT: MATHEW 25:14-30
MEMORY VERSE: “And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey” (Mathew 25:15 KJV).
The gift of talents, potentials, and special privileges are for investment in the Lord’s business within and outside His Church Universal. We should be diligent to invest them for Him, and not for ourselves; and to invest them in the things that please Him, and not us; again, to use them appropriately in the way He wants us to use them, and not in the manner we desire.
We were given the capacity to prosper in the things of God and impact everywhere through His gifts. We have no excuse. In the church, they are for building the church and edifying the souls that worship there. They are not for self-aggrandisements, self-glorification, or self-indulgences. They are to be used to accomplish God’s purposes, and obtain good results.
In the Parable of the Talents, the servant who did not invest his own talent was rejected and cast into outer darkness. He made himself an unprofitable servant. Many have made themselves unprofitable to God in His kingdom business in several ways. Some have worked in opposition to His will consciously or unconsciously (Acts 5:39). Some have made merchandise of His flock. Some have led the congregation astray in several respects. Unless we truly repent and turn from evil, He would reject us and the services and work we do.
Like Paul, let us handle our gifts or talents with humility, earnestness, diligence, commitment, and singleness of mind and purpose. He excelled in his services and work because he had the right attitude and mindset. We should cultivate same in us. He said, “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him” (1 Tim. 1:12 NLT). Since God has counted us worthy to work for Him, let us maintain the trust He has for us.
- Decide to be profitable to God in your work and life.
- Lord, help me to be useful and profitable to you in life.
