TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 8:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.”Deuteronomy 8:3 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
If you notice in the memory verse, you will realize that two things were carefully compared – the Lord fed the Israelites with “Manna”, and yet says, Man shall not live by “bread” ALONE – Manna and bread were compared.
Manna, by implication is not food; whereas, bread is food. So, what does manna imply? Manna is a spiritual meal, beyond the regular food we eat. It so spiritual that God knew it would sustain them instead of their regular food. Again, when Jesus Christ had fasted, Satan told Him to turn stones to bread, knowing He was hungry, and needed to eat food – the physical food (Luke 3:4). But Christ understood that man shall not live by bread alone but by the WORD of God.
As a result, the Lord invites the Church not to live by bread (the physical food); but by the spiritual manna – the Word of God. How often do you eat the Word (study the word of God)? Studying the Word of God helps you put on Christ inside of you because Christ is the word of God personified (John 1:14). Without studying the Word of God, you will be weary and not able to withstand the waves of evil. But the word of God is quick and powerful to set you free, as you study it daily (Hebrews 4:12)
- So, the more you eat the spiritual food, the more you grow and become strengthened spiritually. Eat this food, by studying the word of God, and remain blessed forever.
- Father, help me to remain constant in serving you, in Jesus name.
