The English Premier League has now been scheduled to resume on June 17, 2020, barring any last minute changes. The first league games will see Aston Villa engage Sheffield United, while second placed Man City will host Arsenal, in a mouth- watering clash. This is primarily because these games were postponed earlier in the season owing to cup commitments by the clubs.
The resumption of the league still requires final clearance from British authorities, bent on ensuring the safety of Britons against the Coronavurus, which has killed so many persons across the globe. The premier league clubs had met yesterday to agree on the resumption of the league, without a specific date.
There are 92 matches still to play as full round of fixtures would then be played on the weekend of 19-21 June 2020. Just like most other leagues and sporting events across the globe, the Premier League was suspended on March 13 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now the competition will be resuming almost 100 days later, but with games played behind closed doors.
Liverpool currently tops the league table with 25 points over second placed Man City.
