The Etche Local Government Council has announced plans to launch a Table Markets Initiative aimed at improving the welfare and livelihoods of residents.
The Executive Chairman of the council, Chief (Hon.) Chima Njoku, JP, disclosed this in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dagogo Isaac, on Tuesday, while receiving a Special Merit Award for Good Governance and Leadership from the Historians of Educational Development Society of Nigeria (HOEDSON) at the Council Secretariat, Okehi.
Njoku described the initiative as a form of “stomach infrastructure” intended to put food on the tables of the people, stressing that improving their welfare and living conditions remained a priority of his administration.
He said his administration was committed to touching the lives of people at the grassroots, noting that the local government, as the closest tier of government to the people, had a responsibility to address their needs directly.
Njoku dedicated the award to the people of Etche, the principal officers of the council and political appointees, appreciating their contributions to the development of the local government.
Presenting the award, Chairman of the HOEDSON Award Organising Committee, Prof. Joy Agumagu, said the honour recognised Njoku’s efforts towards grassroots development in Etche.
Agumagu described the chairman’s developmental initiatives as unprecedented, saying his administration had demonstrated strong commitment to improving the lives of residents.
