Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, Enefaa Georgewill has reacted to Saturday’s demolition of Elechi Waterfront in Diobu, Port Harcourt, by the Rivers State Government.
Georgewill in a statement, shortly after the demolition, said criminality would increase in the coming days due to hardship.
According to him, over ten thousand persons including men, women, youths and children have been rendered homeless with the act.
He stated that the government did not follow due process, and that houses not marked for demolition were not spared.
Enefaa said the main essence of government is to serve the people by bettering their lives and not to punish them.
He had in a statement berated the government for building houses for the rich, and doing nothing to help the poor get shelter.
