The Rivers State Government, says it is ready to combat fire outbreaks and emergencies across the state.
Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Ononwu disclosed this in a statement, Today. He said reports making the rounds that firemen are not ready to respond to fire outbreaks are false.
He revealed that fire officials were attacked at Elechi Beach on Saturday, after they arrived the scene to put out the fire, which destroyed properties.
Mr Ononwu, who apologized for the late arrival of the firefighters, condemned the incident, adding that no official is unwilling to respond in times of emergencies.
He urged residents to desist from the act and support firefighters, in order to carryout their duties effectively.
The commissioner, sympathised with victims of the fire incident, adding that the government is planning on assisting them.
