The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cautioned popular Nigerian skitmaker Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, to desist from what it described as “clout chasing” following a misleading social media post.
The anti-graft agency accused the comedian of sharing a manipulated image suggesting he had been declared wanted by the commission. The image, which circulated online, featured an EFCC “WANTED” notice bearing Sabinus’ name and photograph, but was clearly stamped with the words “FAKE NEWS.”
According to the EFCC, the original notice referenced in the doctored post was for a different individual, also named Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, who is wanted in connection with an alleged case of obtaining money by false pretence. The commission stressed that the wanted notice did not pertain to the skitmaker.
The agency warned that such actions could mislead the public and undermine its operations, urging content creators to act responsibly and avoid spreading false information for online attention.
The EFCC further reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its communications and advised the public to verify information from official channels before sharing.
