There was pandemonium this morning along the Iloabuchi/Egede axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt as officials of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency and Iloabuchi Electronics Dealers clashed over attempt by the officials to arrest an electronics dealer for allegedly dumping refuse in the drainage.
Findings reveal that the officials stormed the area after they were contacted by an electronics dealer to arrest his colleague for dumping refuse in the gutter.
The dealers engaged the RIWAMA officials who were acompained by two female mobile Police officers in a fight when they were about taking the suspect away.
The incident which lasted for minutes caused serious hold up in the area as the dealers forcefully released the suspect – who denied dumping refuse in the drainage.
The female Police officers who were manhandled immediately called for backup. Few minutes later officers of the Iloabuchi Police Division reportedly stormed the area and arrested over 5 persons including the suspect.
Recall that the state government had warned residents against dumping of refuse in the drainage to mitigate the effect of flooding.
