The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA) has said that COVID-19 is likely to spread and become difficult to handle if people continue to doubt its existence.

Chairperson of the organisation, Dr. Adebiyi Obelebara in a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt, said the virus, which currently has no known cure is real. She said people must protect themselves by maintaining the respiratory hygiene measures outlined by the WHO.

Obelebara blamed the denial, on the distrust people have on the government as anything that comes from them, is seen as a lie.

She urged the people to accept the statistics by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the virus, as they are factual and not meant to deceive anyone.

As the country continues to record new index cases of the coronavirus, some Nigerians have maintained that it is not in Nigeria. They believe it is only a ploy by the leaders to embezzle taxpayer funds.

According to the NCDC, as at today, Nigeria has recorded 343 cases of the Coronavirus.  Ninety-one of the coronavirus patients have been discharged while 10 persons have died as a result of the virus.
