As part of the Rivers State Governments effort to sanitize the area, Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Barr George Ariolu on Monday, embarked on a sensitization tour round communities in the LGA in line with the State Government’s directives.
The Chairman during the sensitization, disclosed the council’s intentions of commencing the immediate evacuation of trucks and heavy duty equipments along Obio/Akpor and its environs.
Speaking with newsmen at Elelenwo, he noted that the decision of the Rivers State Government to tackle the overdue parking of trucks along the highways is a step in the right direction and is worthy of commendation.
He also commended Governor Wike for taking the bold step to curb the menace associated with the high risk of soot in the air due to illegal bunkering otherwise known as kpo fire in the state, adding that it is a fight worth embarking on.
Also at Elelenwo Police Division, Barr Ariolu, while speaking to the DPO, Abdusalam Modu, hinted that there is imminent need to collaborate with Security Agencies to facilitate the enforcement of the Governor’s directives.
In another visit to the Trans Amadi Divisional Police Station, He added, that the synergy with security agents is deliberate effort by the government in tackling the current situation it is faced with, considering the notorious nature of continuous parking of trucks along highways and streets of Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the Council Boss following the sensitization which cut across Elelenwo, Choba, Iriebe, Rumuokwurushi, Elimgbu, Atali Oginigba communities Etc… has assured the general public not to panic as evacuation will commence on Wednesday January 5, 2022.
The Chairman during his visit to the aforementioned places bemoaned the lack of corporation and negligence of truck owners to government directives.
He however assured that the trucks upon impoundment will attract fines as well as subsequent arrest and legal actions to be taken against owners if they continue to flout government orders.
