KEY VERSE: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).
TEXT: 1 JOHN 2:1-6 (KJV)
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God [a]is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

An advocate is a person who comes to our aid or pleads our case before a judge. In a human court system, an advocate speaks for the rights of his or her client. We call them lawyers because they have studied all the details about law. They can use their knowledge of the law to prove that a person is innocent of the charges brought against him.
This is the picture the Bible paints in referring to Jesus as our “Advocate with the Father”. God’s righteous law pronounces us guilty on all counts. We have sinned against God and rejected His right to rule our lives. The only just punishment for such wickedness is an eternity in hell.
This is why Jesus stands as the Advocate between a repentant sinner and the righteous God. He applies His blood to cleanse our heart and also pleads our case with the Righteous Judge.
Jesus is our Advocate. When we repent, ask for forgiveness and cleansing of our sins, God pardons us and accepts us as His children. Jesus, our Advocate, continues to stand for us so that Satan will not be able to overcome us at the time of temptation.
Jesus has satisfied the demands of justice. So, through His sacrifice, He gives us salvation and righteousness. All you need do now is to humbly pray to Jesus, asking Him to plead your case with God. He will gladly do that and you will be set free from all sins.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Lord, forgive me all my sins in the Name of Jesus.
