Text: Psalm 89:1–4 (KJV)
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever;
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
2 For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.”
3 “I have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have sworn to My servant David:
4 ‘Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.’ ” Selah
KEY VERSE: Psalm 89:3–4 (KJV)
“I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.”
From the pages of Scripture to our present day, God has consistently revealed Himself as a faithful covenant-keeping God.
A notable story is told of Esther Mahlangu, a woman from Ndebele Village in South Africa during the apartheid era. She was a gifted Ndebele artist who was imprisoned for refusing to carry a pass. During her time in captivity, Esther held firmly to her faith in God—praying and meditating on His promises.
God intervened miraculously, leading to her release. Upon gaining her freedom, she used her art to symbolize hope, resilience, and the faithfulness of God to deliver His people.
This illustrates the unchanging nature of God’s faithfulness to His covenant. The covenant God made with David—to establish his throne and lineage forever—extends into the New Testament, where it finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah and Mediator of the New Covenant. Through Him, all who believe receive the promise of eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15).
God never makes impulsive promises or fails to fulfill His word. Unlike humans, who often falter in commitment, God’s constancy and dependability are absolute. His faithfulness is the anchor of our confidence amid life’s uncertainties.
As a believer, therefore, you must trust in God’s unchanging nature, even when your surroundings shift and people prove unreliable. His promises remain steadfast. In God’s immutability lies your peace, protection, and provision.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
In God’s immutability lies your security and supply.
