DCLM Daily Manna 2023: DCLM Daily Manna 26 August 2023: Contentment is King
KEY VERSE: “And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?” – (Numbers 16:10)
TEXT: Numbers 16:1-11 (KJV)
Now Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men,
2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the Israelites, 250 princes or leaders of the congregation called to the assembly, men well known and of distinction.
3 And they gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, [Enough of you!] You take too much upon yourselves, seeing that all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you lift yourselves up above the assembly of the Lord?
4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face.
5 And he said to Korah and all his company, In the morning the Lord will show who are His and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to Him; him whom He has chosen will He cause to come near to Him.
6 Do this: Take censers, Korah and all your company,
7 And put fire in them and put incense upon them before the Lord tomorrow; and the man whom the Lord chooses shall be holy. You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi.
8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear, I pray you, you sons of Levi:
9 Does it seem but a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister to them,
10 And that He has brought you near to Him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you? Would you seek the priesthood also?
11 Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against the Lord. And Aaron, what is he that you murmur against him?

Contentment is a very rare virtue in the lives of many. The inordinate ambition to get a particular thing or position at all costs has led to so many betrayals, usurpation of legitimate authorities, destructive criticisms, propaganda and so on. In many countries, lack of contentment has led to looting of the treasury and even elimination of political opponents.
The rebellion of Korah, Dathan and Abiram was due to lack of satisfaction with the positions God had given them. This made them revolt against the leadership of Moses and Aaron. They, with two hundred and fifty famous and renowned princes of the assembly, rose up to challenge the two leaders, claiming they were arrogating too much authority to themselves. Moses responded by telling them that God would show who He had actually chosen.
God hates covetousness, which is the root cause of discontentment. Had Gehazi the servant of Elisha not allowed greed to get the better of him, he would perhaps have gotten a double portion of the Spirit of God as Elisha also received from Elijah. Similarly, Balaam lost his life and ministry due to greed.
“But godliness with contentment is great gain”. The antidote to lack of contentment is faith in the promises of God with patience to wait for the manifestation. Job did not allow his suffering to affect his faith and dependence on God. Whatever belongs to us as believers will come to us in God’s appointed time if we trust and obey Him, because promotion can only come from Him.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Waiting patiently upon God midwives enduring blessings eventually.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 36-38
