DCLM Daily Manna 2 October 2026: Renewed Intimacy With God
KEY VERSE: “And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD” (Hosea 2:19,20).
TEXT: HOSEA 2:16–23
And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.
17 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.
18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;
22 And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.
23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.

The prophecy of Hosea portrays God’s relationship with His people as a marriage filled with love, commitment, and, unfortunately, also a cycle of unfaithfulness. In this text, God shares a promise of restoration alongside His earlier warnings of judgement.
Israel was depicted as the unfaithful wife of Jehovah, having wandered into idolatry. The nation broke its covenant with God, wrongly attributing their blessings to the idols they worshipped. They overlooked God as the source of their provision and prosperity. As a result, God warned them that He would take away the blessings they had wrongly credited to idols until they turned back to Him. However, the story didn’t end with judgement. God promised that when they repent, He would restore and rekindle a close relationship with them.
Once some people experience success today, they forget that the source is none other than Almighty God. Many today often credit their achievements to their hard work or the people God has placed in their lives to help them, thereby denying God the glory He rightfully deserves. Yet, God calls us to repentance and a renewed closeness with Him. He longs for us to turn away from misplaced priorities and return to a faithful relationship with Him.
As Christians, the example of Israel serves as both a warning and a source of encouragement. If we, therefore, must break free from the destructive cycle of judgement, we must prioritise a consistent relationship with God through daily communion, prayer, and obedience. Furthermore, if we avoid attitudes and actions that grieve the heart of God, such as pride, ingratitude, and idolatry — we can walk consistently with Him.
The promise of renewed intimacy, as expressed in today’s text, underscores God’s deep longing to restore His wayward people. Just as Israel was promised a renewed covenant relationship where they would again be called God’s people, we are invited into a profound intimacy with God through Jesus Christ. As recipients of the Spirit of sonship, we can proclaim “Abba, Father” as we enjoy a closeness with God that transcends the failings of the past.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God writes His judgements with restoration in view.
