Daily Manna 14 June
KEY VERSE: “Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?” – (Micah 6:10).
TEXT: Micah 6:10–16
10 Are there yet the treasures of wickedness
In the house of the wicked,
And the short measure that is an abomination?
11 Shall I count pure those with the wicked scales,
And with the bag of deceitful weights?
12 For her rich men are full of violence,
Her inhabitants have spoken lies,
And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
13 “Therefore I will also make you sick by striking you,
By making you desolate because of your sins.
14 You shall eat, but not be satisfied;
Hunger shall be in your midst.
You may carry some away, but shall not save them;
And what you do rescue I will give over to the sword.
15 “You shall sow, but not reap;
You shall tread the olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil;
And make sweet wine, but not drink wine.
16 For the statutes of Omri are kept;
All the works of Ahab’s house are done;
And you walk in their counsels,
That I may make you a desolation,
And your inhabitants a hissing.
Therefore you shall bear the reproach of My people.”

Human decisions are free but not without consequences. Farmers understand the principle of sowing and reaping; thus, they generally prepare to reap what they have sown. When one builds a house of wickedness, the outcome is easily predictable. Prophet Micah listed three major practices prevalent in the house of the wicked. These are fraud, violence and falsehood. Whilst fraud is prevalent today in businesses, violence is often carried out by the rich.
“The rich men thereof are full of violence.” As for falsehood, “The inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.” Nowadays, there is scarcely a trade or profession carried on without deception and lies. Such are samples of the crimes prevalent in Jerusalem. The Lord pronounced heartbreaking evils against them because of their sins. They were to be made sick and brought to ultimate desolation.
There would be lack and famine such that they would eat and not be satisfied. All the seeds they had sown expecting to reap were to be dashed in pieces with no significant harvest. Their sinful lifestyles attracted pains and sorrows that robbed them of whatever pleasure they had. Sin will always carry its penalty. Our world today is filled with various evils committed daily by men either in the religious or non-religious world.
God who watches the actions of all men will visit the impenitent sinner with divine judgment as He did to backslidden Israelites. The only way of escape is to quickly repent from all known sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. To cling to sin until the final fleeting breath is drawn is to willingly choose to damn the soul in the intolerable burnings of hell.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The pleasures of sin always end in pain.
