The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has urged leaders of the South South region to emulate other regions and form a regional security outfit that will assist security agencies in maintaining law and order.
Senator, Emmanuel Ibok Essien, National President of the forum, who made this known when they visited former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said the call became necessary following the rate of insecurity in the country.
The group, also said they had handed over a Regional Security framework, which was drafted by retired military officers to the South South Governors, during a meeting held in November 16, 2020 in Port Harcourt.
”We committed some of our retired top Military and Police Officers to develop a Regional Security Framework, which we handed to the South-South Governors during their meeting in Port Harcourt on 16th November 2020,” it said.
“Whatever that is needed should be done to fast track setting up of the regional security arrangement to complement the efforts of the national security agencies, and enhance the safety and security of lives and property, of not only our people but all Nigerians who reside or do business in the Niger Delta region,” PANDEF added.
