The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said that more COVID-19 infections in younger people can lead to more deaths in the older population who are more vulnerable to the virus.
The centre made this known in a statement on its Twitter handle Today.
The NCDC explained that when the younger ones do not practice preventive behaviours, they increase the risk of spreading the virus to their parents and the elderly.
The statement read: “Do not put their lives in danger, take responsibility to protect them, observe physical distancing, wear a face mask, and wash your hands frequently.”
The NCDC, Nigeria’s leading national public health institute, which is a Nigerian federal government agency under the Federal Ministry of Health, is doing everything within its powers to curb the spread of the dreaded virus. COVID-19 has so far infected 28,167 persons, with 11,462 discharged and 634 deaths in the country. This is based on data made public by the NCDC.
