Work on the Port Harcourt – Maiduguri rail line has been suspended by contractors handling it due to insecurity.

Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo disclosed this while on an inspection tour of the project in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital at the weekend.

According to him, the contractors had complained of incessant attacks at the Abia State axis of the rail line.

He also debunked claims that funds meant for the project have been mismanaged.

“I am very displeased by these acts and I condemn it in strong terms. In the history of Nigeria, no administration has invested more in rail infrastructure like the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

“I call on the media and the judiciary to collaborate with the ministry to ensure that these economic saboteurs are not only exposed but prosecuted and sentenced speedily to serve as a deterrent to others,” he added.
