The Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Society of Civil Engineers has cautioned against the use of substandard materials and unprofessional builders hours after a building collapsed in Port Harcourt.
Chairman of the association, Mohammed Adedio in a statement urged the government to follow up and monitor the processes of building constructions after approvals .
Adedio also urged the government to pay less attention to getting revenue when giving building approvals, but consider safety.
Sources say the collapsed building which was still under construction was an attachment to the original hotel as part of the hotel’s expansion plan
Three persons are now in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital following the incident.
Some eyewitnesses said the three fatally injured persons were rescued from the building by neighbours and rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
