The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has approved a New Year gift of ₦100,000 for each member of the Nigerian Legion in the council area and ₦50,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Emohua.

Sir Lloyd also approved a salary bonus for all verified civil servants on the local government payroll, directing the council’s accounts department to work out the modalities for the payment of an undisclosed additional amount to each staff member as a New Year bonus.

The announcements were made on Thursday during the wreath-laying and parade ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the council pavilion in Emohua.

Speaking at the event, the council chairman disclosed that the local government had further approved the provision of new uniforms and the engagement of retired soldiers as council security personnel. According to him, the move is aimed at strengthening internal security at the council headquarters by leveraging the wealth of experience of ex-servicemen.

Sir Lloyd paid glowing tribute to former Nigerian soldiers for their sacrifices to the nation, stressing that no form of reward or compensation could adequately measure the price they paid to keep Nigeria united, even in the most challenging times.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and staff welfare, the chairman explained that the New Year salary bonus for civil servants was approved in appreciation of their support for his administration’s anti-corruption drive and efforts to improve service delivery at the council.

He noted that the recently conducted staff biometric exercise had further validated his stance against payroll irregularities, adding that funds recovered from the exercise had enabled the council to complete critical infrastructure projects within his first 100 days in office.

Sir Lloyd urged council staff to remain committed to their duties, emphasizing the importance of regular attendance and environmental sanitation at the council headquarters.
