The Chairman of the Traders’ Union at the SARS Market in Rukpokwu, C.P. Oburu, has confirmed the killing of a livestock trader, Ejike Enyadike, at the Obio/Akpor International Market along SARS Road.

Oburu said Ejike was pronounced dead on Sunday at the Rukpokwu Primary Health Centre after he was reportedly stabbed multiple times by a group of northern traders during a dispute over ₦500.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, believed to be more than twenty in number, descended on the victim around 11am on Sunday, leaving him in a pool of blood. Another man who attempted to rescue Ejike was also stabbed in the ribs and is currently in critical condition.

Oburu disclosed that the police and the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council have since sealed the market and made several arrests. When our correspondent visited the market on Monday, the suspected assailants were nowhere to be found as security operatives continued investigations.
