Two Niger Delta University students were killed on Wednesday in a head-on collision between a truck and a commercial tricycle along the Yenagoa–Amassoma Road in Bayelsa State.

Several other passengers sustained critical injuries in the crash, which occurred at a sharp bend on the highway. Witnesses blamed the incident on the absence of road signs and excessive speeding by drivers.

Eyewitnesses said the truck, approaching the bend at high speed, lost control and rammed into the tricycle, crushing it.

Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Musa Muhammad, confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation was underway to determine its cause.
