The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy troops to the Republic of Benin as part of a regional peace and stabilisation mission.

The approval came after the President formally wrote to the Senate seeking consent for the military deployment, aimed at preventing an “unconstitutional seizure” of power and averting the “destabilisation” of democratic institutions in Benin.
