The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education through effective teaching and learning.
Bob-Fubara gave the assurance while flagging off a Back-to-School Tour of Oceania communities in the local government area.
The council’s Chief Press Secretary, Soibi Oruwari in a statement said the Chairman while addressing the Adviser on Student Affairs, Alaba Jack, and her team, disclosed that his administration would carefully review the report of the tour and take appropriate action on the needs identified in the primary and secondary schools visited.
He stressed that his administration was determined to ensure that no child in Akuku-Toru was denied access to quality education, adding that the welfare and needs of teachers would also be considered in efforts to improve educational standards across the area.
The chairman noted that feedback from the tour would enable the administration to identify areas requiring attention and take necessary steps to address challenges confronting schools in the benefiting communities.
Earlier, the Adviser on Student Affairs, Alaba Jack, briefed the chairman on the objectives of the initiative and commended him for sponsoring the programme, which she described as the first of its kind in the history of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
Jack explained that the tour was designed not only to distribute educational materials but also to provide an opportunity for the team to interact with teachers and students, assess their needs and gather feedback for presentation to the chairman.
She said the initiative would provide the administration with first-hand information on the condition of schools and the challenges facing teachers and students.
The Back-to-School Tour, an initiative of the Office of the Adviser on Student Affairs, is scheduled to run from Wednesday to Friday.
Students in Kula, Abissa, Soku, Elem-Sangama and Idama communities are expected to benefit from the programme through the distribution of writing materials and customised school bags sponsored by the council chairman.
The tour is also expected to help the administration assess the educational needs of the benefiting communities and identify areas requiring government intervention.
