The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo has appealed to the panel of inquiry investigating the destruction of property in some local government councils in Rivers State on October 7th, 2024 to ensure that those responsible are brought to book.
Ihunwo, made this known when he appeared before the Justice I.R.Minakiri led panel of inquiry investigating the destruction of some council secretariats which happened on October 7th, holding at the Rivers state High Court in Port Harcourt.
He said it will not make any sense for the panel of inquiry to just sit without making appropriate recommendations for the arrest and prosecution of culprits.
He described the events of October 7th, 2024 as horrific and terrifying.
He told the panel that sponsored hoodlums led by a notorious killer, Charles Timothy aka, Woski, made their way into the Council Secretariat along Rumuodomaya and started shooting sporadically.
Speaking after the sitting, Ihunwo said, “I have informed the panel what happened on October 7th, 2024 at Obio/Akpor Council Secretariat, Rumuodomaya how hoodlums made attempts to burn down the council secretariat but were resisted by our people and security agencies attached to the council, I have also mentioned the names of those who were involved including one Charles Timothy who is popularly known as Woski and others, I have also told the panel to be thorough in their investigation and bring these people to justice, people should not come and set our council on fire because they want power at all cost, note that the destruction was not witnessed in Obio Akpor alone but in Ikwerre, Eleme and Emohua LGAs on that fateful day.”
He also pointed accusing fingers at his immediate predecessor, Barr George Ariolu for having a hand in the invading, destruction and looting of the council.
