The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), at the University of Port Harcourt, says it is ready to resume its suspended strike action, geared towards forcing the government to implement the agreement reached with the union.
The agreement was reached after the Union’s Congress held at the school’s Secretariat, yesterday.
The Uniport ASUU Chairman, Comrade Darlington Chima, disclosed this in a statement after the meeting.
Uzoma, said it is disheartening to note that the government disregarded efforts made by stakeholders to all outstanding issues, and urged Nigerians to hold the government accountable for their actions.
Some of the agreement reached with the government includes: amendment of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Act to check the indiscriminate establishment of more state universities by State Governors, in spite of the gross underfunding of the existing ones.
The replacement of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
And the signing/implementation of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement,
ASUU, had earlier said its members in Universities across the country would embark on another strike, should the Federal Government fail to implement the Memorandum of Action it signed with them.
