Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Barr George Ariolu DSSRS has been presented with a “Leadership Award” by the Centre For Disaster Risk Management And Development Studies, University Of Port Harcourt.

Speaking while presenting the award at the Faculty Of Law Auditorium, University of Port Harcourt, Prof Andrew Obafemi said the award was presented to Ariolu in recognition of his contribution, innovation and capacity building in disaster risk recognition.

Receiving the award, Ariolu expressed joy on behalf of his family and good people of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

He appreciated the Centre For Disaster Risk Management And Development Studies for identifying his contributions to this sector.

In Line with the Theme of the Event “Fighting Inequality For A Resilient Future”, Ariolu charged the Centre For Disaster Risk Management And Development Studies to ensure that there is a nexus between the research community and the public sector for the implementation of the research works.

“From every indication, Issues of risk and disaster concerns everybody. For me as a person and also speaking from the point of governance, research topics like this has always been about speeches, without commiserate and adequate actions to implement these policies.”

“There is no connection between the academias and the authorities, both the public or private sector that can implement this policies. “

“I call on our dear academias to note that there is a pertinent need for us to create a connection between the academias and the public sector, so that research works as important as this will not end as paper works but they will be implemented for the benefit of the people and our dear nation, Nigeria. “

Also honored at the event is Prof Georgewill Owunari, Vice Chancellor, University Of Port Harcourt, Prof Chinedu Mmom DSSRS, Commissioner For Education Rivers State, Hon Mbakpone Okpe, Chairman Tai Local Government Area amongst others.
