The Executive Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Erastus Awortu, has said that plans are underway for a by-law to preserve wildlife in the area.
Awortu, made this known during a meeting with stakeholders, days after an elephant and hippotamus were spotted in the area.
He said such a law when passed would check deforestation and hunting in the LGA.
The council boss, also disclosed that such wildlife are endangered species that must be preserved and protected.
He furthermore, explained that there are plans to take advantage of the tourism potentials to boost revenue within the council, as he warned residents against harming and killing the animals.
“We have to preserve this wildlife because they are endangered species, we must not allow our naturally endowed rainforest to be destroyed,” he said.
