Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has said that if not for former Governor of the State, Sir. Dr. Peter Odili an Ikwerre man would not have been Governor of the State.

Speaking at the flag off for the construction of the Dr. Peter Odili Cardiovascular Center in Port Harcourt on Monday, Wike said, that singular act of his, is one of the reasons the center was named after him.

He said it was better to honour the former governor who has contributed immensely to the growth of the state, while he is alive.

Wike stated that God used Peter Odili to bring him to change the narrative that an Ikwerre man cannot perform in office, which has been proved wrong.

He also noted that when people say that Odili is a bad person, it is due to the fact that he made sure an Ikwerre man became Governor.

“So when you hear Dr. Odili is a bad man, it is because he said Ikwerre man will be governor. Now we are governor, must we not thank him?” he said.
