A delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) will visit Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from Tuesday, October 20, to Friday, October 23, 2026, for the final implementation mission of the Urban Water Reform and Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project (UWR/PHWSSP).
The mission is expected to focus on the implementation of the project, marking the final AfDB mission concerning the operationalisation of the Port Harcourt Water Corporation (PHWC).
The delegation will begin its mission on Monday, October 19, with a meeting with the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja before proceeding to Port Harcourt for further engagements.
The Urban Water Reform and Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project is aimed at supporting improvements in urban water supply and sanitation services in Port Harcourt. The broader objectives of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) initiatives include improving access to safe water, promoting proper sanitation and strengthening public health through better hygiene practices.
The visit comes at a crucial stage in the project’s implementation and the efforts to establish an operational framework for the Port Harcourt Water Corporation, which is expected to play a key role in water service delivery in the state.
