Owners of high-value properties in Abuja owe more than ₦300 billion in unpaid fees for Certificates of Occupancy, according to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at a media briefing at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Sunday night, Wike highlighted the significant financial losses caused by these outstanding debts.

He noted that the FCT’s monthly revenue collections have increased from approximately ₦9 billion to an average of ₦25 billion, with December 2024 alone generating over ₦40 billion.

The minister attributed the surge in revenue to stricter enforcement of ground rent collections and payments for Certificates of Occupancy by landowners.
