The Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Chief Chima Boniface Njoku, has ordered the immediate suspension of all revenue roadblocks mounted by illegal revenue agents in Igbo-Etche, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Dagogo Isaac, Chief Press Secretary of the council said, Njoku gave the directive during a peace and reconciliation meeting between Edegelem and Umuakuru communities, held at the palace of the Onyeshi Agwuru Asa, His Royal Majesty, King Dr. Samuel Ndiwe Amaechi.
The meeting was convened to promote unity and facilitate dialogue towards resolving disagreements involving youths from the two communities and ensuring lasting peace.
According to him, as part of efforts to address the issues, the council chairman directed traditional rulers, youth leaders, Community Development Committee representatives and Chief Security Officers from the affected communities to attend a broader dialogue at the council secretariat in Okehi on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
He stated that the meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to address outstanding issues and find lasting solutions in the interest of peace and stability.
Njoku urged community leaders, youths and other stakeholders to cooperate with the council in promoting mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.
He stressed the need for the parties to prioritise dialogue over conflict to ensure lasting harmony in the affected communities and Etche Local Government Area at large.
