The South-South Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, has launched a blistering attack on former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of failing to deliver tangible benefits to the people despite the political positions he occupied.

Nwanosike spoke on Saturday at a civic reception organised in honour of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

While praising Wike for what he described as his role in empowering young politicians and attracting development to Rivers State, Nwanosike took a swipe at Amaechi, saying the former governor rose through the political ranks with Wike’s support.

According to him, Amaechi became Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly twice, served as governor for two terms and later became a minister, but allegedly failed to reciprocate the support with commensurate benefits to the people.

“Under our watch and our support, with your support, he became Speaker of Rivers State Assembly twice. With your support and our support, he became Governor of Rivers twice. With his support, he became Minister. Yet nothing, nothing, I’m sorry to tell you, nothing was brought back home,” Nwanosike said.

He challenged Amaechi’s supporters to point to specific benefits they had received from his years in political leadership, insisting that the achievements associated with Wike were more visible.

Nwanosike also praised the Ikwerre Local Government Chairman, Charles Wobodo, for reconnecting communities in the council to the national electricity grid and executing other projects within his first year in office.

He further credited Wike with supporting Rivers indigenes to occupy prominent positions, including the appointment of one of the state’s sons as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni.

On the 2027 elections, Nwanosike warned against politicians who, in his words, disappear from the state and return shortly before elections expecting automatic support from voters.

He said the people of Ikwerre were not political “snails” that could simply be picked up and put in anyone’s pocket.

Nwanosike maintained that the people had their own identity and political destiny, stressing that their future should not be tied to that of any individual.

He urged the people to continue supporting Wike, whom he described as a “brother and father,” while praising the minister for what he described as his contributions to the empowerment and development of Rivers State.
