The Nigerian Navy has recovered approximately 93,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil during an operation in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operation was conducted on August 20 by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
The operation followed credible intelligence on alleged illegal crude oil storage activities in Allison Community.
According to the him, operatives uncovered 10 dugout pits at the site, five of which contained an estimated 93,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, while the remaining five were filled with water.
The operatives also recovered a large quantity of hoses believed to have been used to convey and transfer crude oil within the illegal facility.
He said the recovered crude oil, dugout pits and other materials were handled in line with established operational procedures, effectively dismantling the illegal storage facility and disrupting the activities of suspected oil thieves.
Folorunsho added that the operation underscores the Service’s sustained efforts to combat crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta by dismantling criminal networks involved in the illicit exploitation of the nation’s oil resources.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining Operation DELTA SENTINEL to protect Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure, safeguard critical national assets and prevent economic saboteurs from operating within the country’s maritime environment.
