ADC Governorship Candidate Visits Omuoko-Aluu After Arson Attack on Chieftain
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Sir Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, has visited Omuoko Community in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, following an alleged arson attack on an ADC chieftain, Mr. Isaiah Thomas.
Pidomson, accompanied by the Rivers State ADC Chairman, Chief Engr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, visited the community after Thomas’ residence was reportedly attacked and set ablaze on Tuesday night.
Thomas, the Chief Whip of the ADC in Ikwerre LGA and Alternate Leader of the party in Aluu, was said to have hosted ADC supporters at his residence on Tuesday morning. The meeting reportedly ended peacefully at about noon.
However, eyewitnesses alleged that operatives of the Ikwerre OSPAC security outfit, reportedly led by its commander, Mr. Kingsley Wali, who also serves as the Chief Security Officer of the Ikwerre Local Government Council, later stormed the compound during the night.
The operatives were accused of destroying properties, including rented chairs, assaulting parents and tenants, looting valuables and setting fire to the building occupied by Thomas, his family and tenants.
Pidomson, who was reportedly travelling out of the state for an official engagement, stopped at the scene to assess the damage and express solidarity with the victims.
He subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the Aluu Division of the Nigeria Police Force.
Following the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer of the Aluu Division, CSP Abdulsalam Modu, visited the scene to assess the situation alongside Dimkpa and other ADC officials.
Pidomson condemned the alleged attack and vowed to pursue the matter through all legitimate legal and constitutional channels until justice is served.
He also questioned the continued operation of the OSPAC security outfit in Ikwerre LGA, alleging that its activities violate the law.
The ADC governorship candidate called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and ensure that those found responsible are brought to justice.
He stressed that violence, intimidation and destruction of property have no place in a democratic society.
