Organisers Insist on One-Chance Protest Despite Threats

Organisers of the planned protest against the menace of “one-chance” robbery in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have vowed to proceed with the demonstration despite receiving threats from different quarters to call it off.

The organisers said the protest is aimed at drawing the attention of relevant security agencies and other authorities to the growing menace and compelling them to take decisive action to protect residents.

One of the organisers, who spoke on condition of anonymity in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said the group had encountered several challenges in the course of mobilising for the demonstration, including threats to abandon the planned action.

He, however, insisted that the protest would go ahead as scheduled.

“We have received threats but we are going on. Our going on is not because we are deeply affected. It’s because we consider the fact that it should not come close to us or anyone we know. You mustn’t wait for it to happen to you before you take a bold step because you might not live to talk about it.”

The organiser urged residents to come out en masse to support the demonstration, stressing that the objective was to demand stronger measures to safeguard lives and property.

The protest is scheduled to hold on August 22, 2026, in Port Harcourt.
