Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has revealed that attempts to reconcile aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed despite his personal interventions with key political figures.
Speaking on the internal crisis within the opposition party, Mohammed disclosed that he met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on three separate occasions to seek support for reconciliation efforts.
According to him, the President was open to the idea of restoring unity within the PDP.
The governor further stated that he put aside personal differences to meet with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at his residence in Abuja. However, he said the meeting yielded no positive outcome, as Wike allegedly declared himself a “conqueror” who had secured control of key positions within the party.
Mohammed explained that he had initially anticipated that the PDP convention might not hold, which would have created room for out-of-court settlements and broader negotiations among stakeholders. He noted that this expectation informed his willingness to withdraw ongoing legal actions in favour of dialogue.
Despite these efforts, the Bauchi governor lamented that neither the presidency nor Wike followed up with him after the engagements, leaving the reconciliation process stalled.
