Media personality and politician, Reuben Abati, has dismissed the one-term presidential promise often made by aspirants as a sign of desperation.
Abati, in a public commentary on Monday, said any politician who pledges to serve only one term if elected is simply trying to gain public sympathy. “It will not work,” he declared, describing such promises as futile and deceptive.
He also criticised what he called performative tactics by some politicians, including serving food and engaging in showy acts at public gatherings, which he said are better left to professional event organisers. According to him, these displays are further signs of political desperation.
His remarks come just hours after former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, reaffirmed his vow to serve only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027.
