Zenith Bank Plc has presented a N200 million cash reward to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title win in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The bank made the announcement on Tuesday, two days after D’Tigress defeated Mali 78-64 in the final and returned to Nigeria on Monday. Upon their arrival, the team was received by President Bola Tinubu, who conferred national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on the players and gave them additional cash rewards.
Zenith Bank, the official sponsor of the Nigeria Women Basketball League for the past 18 years, has played a key role in the development of several players who featured in the historic victory. Among them is Murjanatu Musa, MVP of the 2022 league champions Air Warriors, and the team’s current head coach, Rena Wakama, a former player with First Bank in the domestic league.
Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank, Dr. Dame Adaora Umeoji (OON), praised the team’s outstanding performance and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to promoting women’s basketball in Nigeria. She expressed optimism that D’Tigress would continue to excel on the global stage.
