Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the directive withdrawing police orderlies from members of the National Assembly, citing concerns over the safety of lawmakers.
Akpabio made the appeal on Friday during the presentation of the 2026 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly, where he disclosed that some legislators were apprehensive about their security following the withdrawal order.
According to him, a number of lawmakers had expressed fears that they might be unable to return home safely without police protection.
“As we direct the security agencies to withdraw policemen from critical areas, some members of the National Assembly have asked me to inform you that they may not be able to go home today,” Akpabio said.
He therefore called on the president to review the decision in the interest of the safety and well-being of lawmakers.
