A magistrate sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced a 20-year-old girl, Joy Olaka Nwogu to four years in prison for stealing and trafficking twin babies in 2018.
She was sentenced by Chief Magistrate, Amaka Amanze after pleading guilty to the crime.
The Judge while delivering the judgement, said even though the accused pleaded guilty, it is important the court takes a stand against such heinous crime.
She adjourned the matter to March 2, 2021, to hear the case against the 2nd defendant, accused of buying the babies.
Lawyer to the International Federation of Women Lawyers in Rivers State, Esther Achor commended the court for the judgement, stating that it will serve as deterrent to others.
