Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said that she was surprised that the Trump-led administration stood against her nomination as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Iweala who was announced as the DG of the WTO, disclosed this in a chat with Journalists yesterday.
She said after the US government interviewed her twice, she felt she had a good understanding with them and was suprised when they stood against her nomination.
She said it was absolutely wonderful when the Biden/Harris administration broke that logjam, as they joined the consensus and gave such a strong endorsement to her candidacy.
“I think I was quite surprised when that came (opposition from Trump) because there was no indication that there was any problem with the US.
“I had two good interviews with the authorities and with the administration so it was a surprise. But that’s the way life works. When things happen, you take them in your stride and you move on.
